THE UST Tiger Softbelles stumbled anew against defending champions Adamson University Lady Falcons, 1-2, in the UAAP Season 80 softball tournament at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Monday.

With the game tied at 1-1, Adamson’s Krisha Cantor hit a solid groundball to the center field off a catching error which sent pinch runner Ivy Capistrano back to home plate for the win.

UST ace pitcher Ann Antolihao fanned out two batters before Cantor made the crucial hit.

Adamson pitcher Lyca Basa also struck out UST’s Arrielyn Arreglado and Lea Guevarra at the top of the seventh inning to regain batting position.

“Kulang pa tayo sa palo. Miscalculation ang nangyari. Kailangang bumawi next game. Napagod na rin si Ann kasi naka-score sa fifth inning [‘yung Adamson],” Tiger Softbelles head coach Sandy Barredo told the Varsitarian.

Hannah Dela Torre hit a solid groundball run-batted-in (RBI) to the left field, sending Arreglado back to home plate to put UST on board.

But Adamson quickly answered with a run from Nicole Padasas to tie the game, courtesy of Cantor’s solid left-field groundball.

The Tiger Softbelles remained at second place with a 7-3 win-loss record.

UST will next face the University of the East on Mar. 1, Thursday, 1 p.m., at the same venue.
