THE UST Tiger Softbelles crumbled late and yielded to the University of the East Lady Warriors, 2-3, in the UAAP Season 81 softball tournament at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Thursday.
Tied at 2 at the bottom of the seventh inning, Mica Lito uncorked a right-field-fly run-batted-in (RBI) that sent Carandang home for the UE walkoff victory.
Trailing 0-1 in the sixth inning, Lady Warrior pinch hitter Lorraine Collado hammered a center field RBI that sent Lito to home plate to knot the game, 1-1.
UE’s Lourdes Blanco followed with a right-field-fly RBI three-bagger that sent pinch runner Terisa Estorco to home base for a 2-1 lead.
Charlotte Sales, however, tied the game for UST at the top of the seventh inning after hitting an RBI triple that sent Trisha Tiozon back home, 2-2.
The Softbelles had eight hits, but nine base runners were left on base.
UST is tied with the Lady Warriors for fifth spot behind a 2-3 win-loss slate.
The Softbelles will try to bounce back against the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons on March 2, Saturday, 11 a.m., at the same venue.
