THE UST Tiger Softbelles zoomed past the University of the East Lady Warriors, 5-1, in the UAAP Season 81 softball tournament at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Monday.
UST started off hot with a homerun from Charlotte Sales and a run-batted-in by Lealyn Guevarra that sent Celestine Palma to home base, 2-0.
“Mas naging consistent na ang iilang mga players sa kanilang batting kaya tayo nakaka-points ngayon and overall, good performance sila today,” Softbelles head coach Sandy Barredo told the Varsitarian.
Mharnie de la Cruz converted a run in the third inning courtesy of a left field fly RBI by Guevarra for a commanding 3-0 lead.
The Lady Warriors’ lone run came from Imee Salvador in the seventh inning off a Lorraine Collado RBI.
UST rose to a 4-3 win-loss record while UE slid to 2-5.
The Softbelles will next face the eight-time defending champion Adamson University Lady Falcons on March 7, Thuraday, 9 a.m., at the same venue.
