THE UST Tiger Softbelles scored seven runs in the last two innings for a come-from-behind win against the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons, 12-11, in the UAAP Season 81 softball tournament at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Monday.

Down 7-11 at the bottom of the seventh inning, UST converted five runs courtesy of Mharmie de la Cruz, Hannah Santiago, Trisha Tiozon, Tanya Belaño and Lyra Gustillo to take the lead.

“Sinabihan ko ang mga bata na mag-focus sa outside corners kasi ‘yon ang pumatay sa UP noong early eliminations. Idiniin lang nila ang palo and tinarget nila ang pitcher tapos idiniin din nila ang mga palo nila sa gitna,” Softbelles head coach Sandy Barredo told the Varsitarian.

Charlotte Sales struck a two run-batted-in single at the bottom of the sixth inning that sent Gustillo and de la Cruz back to home plate to cut deficit to four, 7-11.

Tied at five, UP unloaded six runs at the top of the fifth inning courtesy of Nitchie Rabe, Erika Olfato, Panjie Legazpi, Blue Diolata, Cai de Luna, and Mitch Sameniada, 11-6.

The Softbelles remained at fourth place with a 5-4 win-loss card while the Lady Maroons slid to fifth behind a 5-5 slate.

Up next for the Softbelles are the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles on March 14, Thursday, 11 a.m., at the same venue.
