THE COLLEGE of Commerce hacked out a semifinal sweep to win the Thomasian Goodwill Games’ Basketball intramurals crown.

Bannered by Arnold Galang, the Commerce dribblers nipped the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery cagers, 74-65, at the Engineering sports complex last Jan. 27.

After being down by as much as 16 points in the first quarter, 23-7, the College of Commerce exploded in the ensuing canto to force a deadlock, 34-34, at halftime. Even with four players scoring in double digits, the Medicine dribblers failed to subdue the rallying momentum of the Commerce squad.

The Faculty of Engineering walked home with bridesmaid honors, while Medicine settled for third. Engineering’s Victor Queyquep and Andrew Arcadio, Education’s Paulo Elma, Medicine’s Garcia, and Galang, composed the Mythical five selection.

Galang was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

Medicine, however, dominated on the distaff side to capture the women’s title. After trailing most of the first three quarters, the Medicine female dribblers unleashed a stinging attack in the final canto to whack the Education cagebelles, 47-40, last Feb. 4.

Jonna Ligon, the division’s MVP, scored a game-high 22 points to lead her team to the throne.

Ligon was also named in the Mythical team together with Education’s Kristel Derpo and Kristine Gabriel, College of Science’s Lyza Broqueza, and College of Fine Arts and Design’s Jenny Orata.

CFAD settled for third, while Science placed fourth. Icy M. Luzano
