WITH BRAWN and agility developed from various mountain crusades, the UST Mountaineering Club (USTMC) won the Philippine Ultimate Association’s Summer of Love Frisbee Tournament championship after disposing Sunken Pleasure, 15-10, last July 2.
USTMC, bearing the moniker España United, made quick work of its initial encounters on the same day. It downed the Oltimate Disc Athlete (13-7) and Disc Devil Bee (11-4) to end the tourney with a masterful 3-0 win-loss card.
A newcomer in the sport, USTMC took some time getting to its feet as it finished the first and second elimination rounds with 6-6 and 5-1 slates.
The game’s rules are similar to American football. Each team gains a point whenever they successfully carry the disc to their side of the field. Each team fields seven players, four men and three women, in a 70 x 40 yard playing field. Perhaps the most peculiar and interesting aspect of Ultimate Frisbee is “self-refereeing,” with the players responsible for calling certain violations. Jose Bimbo F. Santos
