THE UST Varsity Team–B survived an early deficit and a late game surge by the Faculty of Arts and Letters to hack out an impressive 84-74 victory at the Basketball Intramurals last Dec. 1 at the UST Gym.

Trailing, 15-18, after the Artlets repeatedly scored on easy fastbreak plays, Team B relied on the hot shooting of swingmen Ponor Oreta and Danny Pribhdas as it unleashed a searing 22-4 assault to lead, 37-22 going into the second half.

In the second half, Team B continued to pour in the points as Gino Cortina and JR Manansala combined to sink four triples ,and give Varsity Team-B their biggest lead of the game, 52-32, midway in the third quarter.

The Artlets tried to bounce back with big men Jeff Ang and Donald Manuel scoring on undergoal stabs but Manansala retaliated with back to back jumpers as the Tigers led, 65-48, going into the fourth quarter.

Eager to pull abreast with their opponents, the Artlets staged a last-ditch comeback attempt as Manuel, Ang, and spitfire Albert Chua joined hands to stage a 23-15 run to bring AB within, 71-80, going into the final two minutes of the game.

However, Oreta and Pribhdas threw cold water in the Artlets’ comeback bid as they scored on back to back lay-ups to seal the win for the Varsity reserve. Darrell I. Dizon
