17 November 2013, 10:20 p.m. – THE UST Golden Sox suffered a 3-10 thrashing from Adamson University in the Philippine Sports Commission Chairman’s Baseball Classic tournament at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Saturday.

The Falcons established an early 5-0 lead off UST’s errors at the top of the first inning. The jittery Golden Sox squad failed to score at the bottom of that inning.

The España-based batters saw a glimmer of hope after edging Adamson in the second, 2-1, and denying them of a point on top of the third.

But the Falcons’ defense proved too much for UST’s sluggish batting, not allowing the Golden Sox to score from the third to sixth innings.

The Golden Sox had a chance to close the gap at the bottom of the eighth inning after Marlon Gonzales and Arvin Plaza were consecutively awarded a walk, loading the first and second bases.

After Andrew Mercado was struck out, Gonzales and Plaza capitalized on a catching error to advance to the next bases.

UST finally ended its scoring drought after Bernardo Siaotong brought Gonzales to the home plate off an RBI (Run Batted In) single in the eighth frame.

Siaotong stole the second base while Amiel Lallana was about to bat. Lallana was later on given a base.

With the bases loaded, the Golden Sox had a chance for a grandslam and move within five points. But the next batter was struck out.

“Our offense was off and the pitcher was not in condition,” coach Jeffrey Santiago said. “We still have a long way to go.”

Other UAAP-member universities participating in the offseason tournament are Ateneo de Manila University and University of the Philippines. Ralph Joshua D.R. Hernandez
