30 May 2014, 1:36 p.m. – SAN SEBASTIAN College-Recoletos used a pivotal third-quarter stretch to pull away from a struggling UST Tiger Cubs, 66-48, in their Filoil Flying V Hanes Premiere Cup encounter at The Arena in San Juan Friday.

The Cubs lost their last four games and bowed out of the tournament with a 1-4 win-loss record.

With UST trailing by just five points at the end of first half, 27-32, the Golden Staglets used a 9-0 run in the third period to take a 14-point lead, 41-27.

“Medyo nagkulang tayo sa rotation,” said coach Bryan Angeles. “We did not expect them to adjust to our small ball adjustment and the loss of Ferrer really hurt us.”

Vince Ferrer, younger brother of Growling Tiger Kevin, was hurt in the second quarter after apparently landing on the foot of an opponent.

In the second canto, a breakaway layup from Miguel Jison put UST within one, 25-26, before San Sebastian converted on free throws to carry a 32-27 advantage at the break.

The Tigers Cubs will see action in UAAP in November. Paul Kennedy A. Lintag
