27 July 2014, 12:29 p.m. – THE UST Junior Tiger Spikers continued their strong start after a hard-fought 17-25, 25-14, 23-25, 25-16, 15-10 victory over Far Eastern University in their UAAP Season 77 boys’ volleyball tournament at the Adamson University gym on Sunday.

Down two sets to one, UST capitalized on FEU’s 38 errors to turn back the pesky Tamaraws.

With the game tied at two in the last set, the Tiger Spikers mounted a quick 5-0 run for a 7-2 lead.

The Tamaraws came back with five straight points to trim the deficit to two, 9-11, before Clyde Cajipo rose to the occasion for UST, delivering back-to-back hits to seal the victory, 15-10.

Despite improving to a 2-0 win-loss card, UST head coach Clarence Esteban said the team was just getting warmed up.

“Hindi pa sanay ‘yung katawan nila kasi gabi kami nagte-training,” he said. “Nagsisimula pa lang naman ang UAAP, sana tumaas pa ‘yung nilalaro nila.”

With UST down 5-6 in the fourth set, Teo De Guzman powered a 10-2 romp with three quick kills to open up a 22-12 lead before cruising to a 25-16 victory.

Lorenz Señoron paced UST with 15 points, including the game-clinching hit, while Armil Lajara and De Guzman had 12 apiece. D. R. M. Dioquino
