Nov. 30, 2014, 10:00 p.m. – DEFENDING champion Far Eastern University outgunned the UST
Golden Booters in a shootout, 7-4, at the start of UAAP Season 77 men’s
football tournament at the FEU-Diliman pitch Sunday.

Down by four goals to begin the second half, the Golden
Booters unloaded back-to-back goals after team captain Gino Clarino scored a
penalty in the 70th minute and Steven Anotado added another one four minutes later
to cut their deficit, 3-5.

FEU’s Jesus Melliza responded with his own goal in the 75th
minute to keep UST at bay, 6-3.

UST connected on another goal from Gabriel Alcantara off
Anotado’s assist, 4-6, but could not convert the rest of the way.

“They tried to come back but they gave easy goals on
the other end after we score. We have to fix our defense, the tactical
side,” UST head coach Marjo Allado said.

FEU started strong in the first half, 3-0, courtesy of goals
from Eric Giganto, Michael Menzi and Arnel Amita, respectively.

Clarino finally put UST on the board off a right corner
penalty at the 40th minute.

The Golden Booters will try to book their first win against
last season’s finalists and Final Four tormentors University of the Philippines
on Saturday, Dec. 6, at the Ateneo de Manila University pitch. Karl
