UST rookies rule Boracay sand courts

May 9, 2015, 12:41 p.m. - SUPER rookies Cherry Rondina and Rica Rivera of UST took their expertise to Boracay as the reigning UAAP beach volleyball champions ruled the 18th Nestea Beach Intercollegiate Volleyball Competition last May 2.

Rondina and Rivera displayed their mastery over Kim Fajardo and Cyd Demecillo and dethroned the De La Salle University pair with a sensational 19-21, 21-17, 15-13 victory in the championship round.

The summer meet gathered collegiate champions from around the country.

Growling Tigers fall prey to Red Lions in FilOil

May 2, 2015, 10:36 p.m. - AN ERROR-plagued UST Growling Tigers suffered their second loss at the hands of the San Beda College Red Lions, 64-74, in the 2015 Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup at the San Juan Arena Saturday.

The reigning NCAA champions overwhelmed the Growling Tigers at the start of the second half with a 28-point output in the third quarter highlighted by a 20-8 run for a commanding 61-48 advantage.

San Beda continued to pound on UST and stretched its lead to 19 points early in the fourth after a putback jumper from Pierre Tankoua, 67-48.

Girls’ volleyball coach to lead UST Golden Tigresses next season

April 23, 2015, 9:20 p.m. - UAAP girls' volleyball champion head coach Emilio “Kung Fu” Reyes Jr. has been appointed as the new chief tactician of the UST Golden Tigresses.

He replaced Tiger Spikers head coach Odjie Mamon whose four-year tenure ended as his contract expired last March 31.

Reyes said he got his formal appointment Wednesday although he had been training the Tigresses since last week.

Reyes was picked by a council at the Institute of Physical Education and Athletics

Back on top: UST set to win 40th overall crown

March 14, 2015, 7:51 p.m. - THE UST Tigers are set to reclaim their standing as UAAP’s apex predator.

UST, which returns to the top after a two-year absence, has practically dethroned two-time defending UAAP seniors' general champion De La Salle University after the Lady Spikers lost to Ateneo de Manila in the women’s volleyball finals Saturday. La Salle’s softball team has also been eliminated by National University from Final Four contention.

NU drops UST, to meet Ateneo for UAAP volleyball crown

Feb. 28, 2015, 8:13 p.m. - THE UST Tiger Spikers will miss a shot at the UAAP crown after an 18-25, 23-25, 23-25 defeat against defending champion National University Bulldogs in their do-or-die Final Four match at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Saturday.

The second-seeded Tiger Spikers squandered a twice-to-beat advantage to a more experienced NU squad, which will try to claim its third consecutive championship against Ateneo De Manila University in a finals rematch.

UST Golden Booters suffer worst UAAP season ever

Feb. 23, 2015, 3:05 p.m. - THE UST Golden Booters capped their worst UAAP Season ever with another heartbreaking defeat against Ateneo de Manila University, 1-2, at the FEU Diliman pitch Sunday.

UST finished at sixth place, its worst showing in UAAP history, with a 4-10 win-loss card. The Golden Booters missed the Final Four for only the second time in 13 years.

UST Lady Booters exit at the bottom in UAAP football

Feb. 22, 2015, 10:34 a.m. - THE UST Lady Booters finished dead last in the UAAP season with a 2-6 win-loss card following a 0-1 loss at the hands of Ateneo de Manila University at the Moro Lorenzo pitch Sunday.

UST's Sheen Ramores almost tied the match at the 62nd minute, but her attempt curled out.

Ateneo's Kathleen Rodriguez delivered the lone goal of the match in the 55th minute off a half-volley kick in the left wing.

La Salle downs Male Woodpushers; Female Woodpushers draw with UE

Feb. 20, 2015, 5:29 a.m. - THE UST Male Woodpushers' winning run came to a screeching halt after a heartbreaking 1.5-2.5 loss against league-leading De La Salle University in the elimination round of the UAAP Season 77 men's chess tournament at the La Salle Henry Sy Hall Thursday.

UST, now with 24 points from a a 6-1-3 win-draw-loss card, dropped to third place behind the Green Archers and Adamson University.

Christian Flores was the lone victor for the Male Woodpushers after edging La Salle's Aglipay Oberio.

Tiger Spikers smash UP for third straight win

 

Feb. 18, 2015, 1:32 p.m. - THE UST Tiger Spikers solidified their hold of second place and a twice-to-beat advantage after hammering the University of the Philippines, 25-12, 28-26, 25-21, in the second round of the UAAP Season 77 men's volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena Wednesday.

UST improved to 10-3 after its third straight win, trailing Ateneo de Manila University which has a 10-2 card.

Golden Booters crash out of Final Four contention; Lady Booters miss finals

Feb. 15, 2015, 10:35 p.m. - THE UST Golden Booters kissed their Final Four hopes goodbye after a  0-6 shutout by the Far Eastern University in the UAAP Season 77 men's football tournament at the Moro Lorenzo field in Ateneo Sunday. 

UST, which finished third in Season 76, dropped to sixth place this year with a disappointing 4-9 win-loss card.
