May 2, 2015, 10:36 p.m. – AN ERROR-plagued UST Growling
Tigers suffered their second loss at the hands of the San Beda College Red
Lions, 64-74, in the 2015 Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup at the San Juan
Arena Saturday.

The reigning NCAA champions overwhelmed the Growling Tigers
at the start of the second half with a 28-point output in the third quarter
highlighted by a 20-8 run for a commanding 61-48 advantage.

San Beda continued to pound on UST and stretched its lead to
19 points early in the fourth after a putback jumper from Pierre Tankoua,
67-48.

“Learning experience ‘to kasi as of now seven veterans
‘yung hindi naglalaro satin. Pero hindi ganitong outcome ‘yung ineexpect natin
kasi lumalaban naman ang mga bata,” head coach Bong dela Cruz said.
“Kinulang sa suporta si Ed (Daquioag) pero pagbalik nila Kevin (Ferrer)
and Karim (Abdul), maba-balance na ang scoring.”

The Growling Tigers, who dropped to a 1-2 win-loss record, only had three
players from their UAAP Season 77 lineup. Ferrer is out with the Sinag Pilipinas
national team, while Abdul, Louie Vigil, Renzo Subido, Reggie Basibas, Jeepy Faundo
and John Macasaet are all injured.

Daquioag led the Tigers with 29 points, 20 from the first
half. Rookie Mario Bonleon added 15.

UST tried to recover midway in the fourth quarter with an
11-2 spurt capped by a completed fast break by Daquioag to cut the deficit to
10, 59-69.

The Tigers kept the Red Lions at the bay in the first half,
finishing the second period with a 12-4 run, eight of them coming from
Daquioag, 32-33.

The Growling Tigers will next face the University of the
Philippines Fighting Maroons on May 20, Wednesday, at the same venue. Karl
