March 14, 2015, 7:51 p.m. – THE UST Tigers are set to
reclaim their standing as UAAP’s apex predators.

UST, which returns to the top after a two-year absence, has
practically dethroned two-time defending UAAP seniors’ general champion De La
Salle University after the Lady Spikers lost to Ateneo de Manila in the women’s
volleyball finals Saturday. La Salle’s softball team has also been eliminated
by National University from Final Four contention.

Based on the Varsitarian’s latest and unofficial tally, UST
will have a minimum of 281 total points, a point ahead of La Salle’s 280 total
markers, after accounting for all UAAP sports.

UST can still earn more points if the Tiger Softbelles land
a spot on the podium of the softball tournament.

Without the results in softball, La Salle leads UST by a
point, 274-273. However, even if the Tiger Softbelles finish at fourth place,
UST will have at least two points over La Salle to overcome the deficit.

In Season 77, the UST Tigers claimed the championships in
men’s and women’s judo, women’s track and field, men’s taekwondo, and women’s
beach volleyball.

UST bagged silver medals in men’s beach volleyball, men’s
and women’s tennis, and men’s and women’s fencing.

The men’s volleyball, men’s swimming, men’s chess, men’s
track and field, women’s taekwondo, men’s table tennis, and poomsae teams
delivered bronze medals.

This would be the first general championship for UST since
Season 74. The UST Tigers are the winningest in UAAP history in terms of
overall titles. Karl Cedrick G. Basco
