annihilated the Rizal Technological University (RTU) Thunder with a 19-1
victory in the Luzon qualifying leg of the Philippine National Games baseball
tournament held at the Rizal Stadium Friday.
UST’s solid hitting pierced RTU’s faulty defense for a nice
bounce back from yesterday’s loss.
The Golden Sox widened the gap further at the top of the
third inning with eight points from runs-batted-in (RBI) courtesy of Kirk
Daquis and Kirk Peralta with two apiece.
UST’s Julius Diaz, Jamil Santiago, Ej Pagkaliwagan,
Christian Mercado, Noriel Valencia, Gilbert Gonzales, Daquis and Peralta made
it to the home plate for a swift 9-1 lead.
The surge continued for the Golden Sox with seven points and
three runs in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively, to score the final
tally.
“Maganda pinapalo [ng players] ngayong araw,”
Santiago told the Varsitarian. “Marami pa kaming gagawin [para sa UAAP
season], kumbaga sa kasabihan, marami pa kaming bigas na kakainin.”
The Golden Sox will next face the winner between Ateneo de
Manila University and Thunders Baseball match tomorrow, 12 noon, at the UST
