February 13, 2016, 7:09p.m. – THE UST Golden Tigresses fell short against Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws, 22-25, 18-25, 25-15, 23-25, in the UAAP Season 78 women’s volleyball tournament at the San Juan Arena Saturday.

Despite a better showing with 44 digs and 47 attacks, UST remains winless in three games.

The Golden Tigresses were ahead late in the fourth canto, 21-19, before FEU ignited an impressive 5-1 run to arrive at set point.

A through-the-block hit from Toni Rose Basas sealed the win for the Lady Tamaraws.

“Character pa rin [ang problema]. Tulad ngayon slow start tapos bibitaw sa huli. May mga ilalabas kami pero limitado ang galaw. Ayun ang malaking tanong,” head coach Emilio “Kung Fu” Reyes said.

Basas led FEU with 19 points while captain Mary Palma added 12 points. UST’s Carmela Tunay scored 16 markers while Cherry Rondina and Ennajie Laure had 14 and 10 points, respectively.

FEU were trailing by only five points late in the third set, 14-19, before UST fired a 6-1 run capped by an unforced attack error from FEU’s Jerili Malabanan.

UST kept the match close early in the second canto, 6-7, before the Lady Tamaraws sizzled for a 10-3 blitz to build a 17-9 cushion and pull away for good.

The Golden Tigresses had the chance to take the first frame away from FEU after a 22-all deadlock but the Lady Tamaraws retaliated with quick three points.

UST will try to capture its first win against the University of the East Lady Warriors on Wednesday, February 17, 2 p.m., at the same venue. Carlo A. Casingcasing
