March 5, 2016, 7:26p.m. – THE UST Golden Tigresses scored their second straight win after a 25-17, 25-23, 25-16 thrashing of the University of the East (UE) Red Warriors in the UAAP Season 78 women’s volleyball tournament at the Arena in San Juan Saturday.

The game was knotted at 3-3 in the third set before Laure took control and led a massive 6-0 run following a service ace by Ria Meneses.

A cross-court attack from Laure, the reigning Rookie of the Year, ended the game.

But UST head coach Emilio “Kung Fu” Reyes said put the win into perspective.

“Anong karapatan nating sabihin na nasa cloud nine tayo? Isang laro pa lang pinanalo natin kaya sabi ko sa kanila, ‘Pakigising ang mga sarili ng kaunti,'” he told the Varsitarian.

The Tigresses were almost upset in the second set as UE held a 22-21 lead after back-to-back kills from Judith Abil.

But regained control of the game behind Laure’s consecutive attacks, assisted in part by the Lady Warriors’ miscues.

UST took advantage of an error-plagued first set by UE to draw first blood.

Laure led the Tigresses with 15 markers. The league’s leading scorer, Cherry Rondina, added 12 for UST.

Ma. Shaya Adorador topscored for UE with nine.

The Golden Tigresses now hold a 4-4 win-loss card.

UST will try to repeat over the De La Salle University Lady Archers, which they stunned last March 2, on Saturday, March 12, at the same venue. P. M. L. Matel
