UST Female Tracksters reap medals in Southeast Asian tilt

April 25, 2016, 10:49p.m. –  TWO FEMALE Tracksters brought home three medals in the 11th Southeast Asian Youth Athletics Championships at the Thammasat University Sports Complex in Thailand last April 23 to 24.

UAAP rookie-MVP Karen Janario won a gold medal in the 200-meter dash, clocking 25.43 seconds. She also secured second place in the 100-meter hurdles with 14.77 seconds behind Vietnamese Thi My Tien Huynh’s 14.23.

Another rookie, Feiza Jane Lenton, placed third in the 800-meter run after finishing at 2:21.37 seconds.

“Ang sarap sa feeling kasi sobrang bata ko [lang pero] nakakapunta na ako ng ibang bansa para makapag laro,” Janario said. “Hindi naman po ako nag-expect na mapupunta ako sa top 3, manalo man o matalo okay lang.”

In the 2016 National Open Championships last April 7 to 9, Janario took home the Most Promising Female Athelete for 2016 award following her two-gold and two-silver medal finish.

Male Trackster Ernest Obiena also set a new Philippine record in the same tournament with a 5.50-meter finish in the pole vault event. John Chester P. Fajardo and Randell Angelo B. Ritumalta
