July 24, 2016, 3:47p.m. – THE UST Junior Golden Booters prevailed against the Malayan Colleges Laguna, 1-0, in their first match in the 14th Ang Liga Tournament at the San Beda College pitch Sunday.
UST rookie Hash Arboleda scored a goal past Malayan goalkeeper Cesar Rencee Bañez at the 51st minute for the lone goal of the match.
“Itong Ang Liga talaga ay preparation for UAAP. Talagang sinalang namin sila para makita kung ano ang mga dapat i-improve sa UAAP. So far, okay naman since first game naman nila [‘to in the tournament],” UST assistant coach David Basa said.
Malayan had chances to score but UST’s defense foiled striker Francis Viscarra’s attempts at the 66th and 70th minutes.
The Junior Golden Booters are competing under Division 2, which is composed of both college and high school teams.
