A CLUTCH header by Golden Booter Conrado Dimacali III towed the UST Golden Booters past defending champions Ateneo de Manila University Blue Booters, 1-0, in the UAAP Season 80 men’s football semifinals at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Thursday.
The win propelled UST to its first finals since Season 74. It last won the championship in Season 69.
Dimacali dinked the game’s lone goal in the 15th minute of extra time as the Booters ran away with the win.
Blue Booter Koko Gaudiel could have forced a penalty shootout in the 30th minute of extra time but his freekick bounced right off the crossbar.
“Maganda ang naging defense kanina. Kasi ang mga goals ng Ateneo, halos nasa loob ng box so at least na-sustain namin ang demand ng game kanina,” UST head coach Marjo Allado said.
The Golden Booters will face the winner of De La Salle University-University of the Philippines semifinals matchup on May 3 at the same venue.
In 2012, UST fell against UP in the finals, 1-0.
