The UST Male Golden Shuttlers dropped their UAAP season opener, 4-1, against the Ateneo Blue Eagles at the Centro Atletico Badminton Center in Cubao on Saturday.
UST duo Ron Galve and Janzen Panisales gave the Male Shuttlers their lone win in a sweep victory over Ateneo’s Charles Bagasbas and Justine Vanzuela, 21-16, 21-15.
Ateneo’s Arthur Salvado Jr. and Lyrden Laborte made easy work of UST’s team captain Lanz Ramirez and Francis Sarmiento, 21-12, 21-17.
Kyle Basilio crumbled against Salvado in the singles category, 13-21, 16-21.
UST’s Lennox Cuilao lost in three sets to Blue Eagle John Bernardo, 21-13, 12-21, 13-21.
Laborte dominated UST’s Francis Sarmiento in the other singles match, 8-21, 9-21.
The UST Male Golden Shuttlers will next face the defending champions National University Bulldogs at the same venue on Oct. 30, Sunday at 8 a.m. Bjorn Del B. Deade
