The UST Lady Shuttlers bowed down to the defending champions Ateneo Blue Eagles, 4-1, in the UAAP Season 85 women’s badminton tournament at the Centro Atletico Badminton Center in Quezon City on Monday.
UST’s duo of Rhafi Santos and Jennifer Saladaga snagged the Golden Shuttlers’ lone win after toppling Ateneo’s Jochelle Alvarez and Missy Cervantes in three sets, 21-15, 17-21, 21-12.
Alvarez overpowered Santos in singles play, 21-13, 21-8.
Ateneo’s Channele Lunod dominated Saladaga, 21-15, 21-15, while UST’s Maria Belen fell to Mikaela de Guzman, 21-11, 21-9.
De Guzman and Lunod made it four wins for Ateneo after dominating their doubles match against UST’s team captain Elij Peña and Clara Ignacio, 21-13, 21-8.
The UST Lady Golden Shuttlers, who fell to a 0-2 win-loss slate, will next face the powerhouse NU Lady Bulldogs at the same venue on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m. Bjorn Del B. Deade
