The UST Lady Paddlers finished with a clean record, 3-0, in the second-round opener of the UAAP Season 85 women’s table tennis tournament at the Makati Coliseum on Tuesday.

The Lady Paddlers climbed to a 7-2 record as they bested the University of the East Lady Warriors, FEU Lady Tamaraws, and Adamson Lady Falcons.

UST Rookie Kaye Encarnacion and Corrine Cartera trounced their respective foes, before the duo of Trystal Cagande and Kathlyn Gabisay overpowered UE’s Maria Perez and Rica Soriano,12-10, 8-11, 11-6, 11-5. 

FEU’s Glieza Ampalid faltered against Cartera, 10-12, 9-11,10-12, while Lady Paddler Encarnacion outlasted Aizel Rom in a five-set match, 11-5, 10-12, 11-7, 3-11, 11-6.

UST tandem of Kathlyn Gabisay and Leigh Villanueva defeated Miriam Martinez and Clarizza Yu, 11-8, 11-8, 10-12, 14-12, for their second win.

Lady Paddlers Cartera and Encarnacion dominated Adamson in singles play after routing Mary Cordero and Kris Romaguera, before the Gabisay-Villanueva duo overpowered Katherine Buendia and Alyssa Diano, 11-7, 11-13, 11-8, 11-8.

In the juniors division, the girls’ team also swept their University of The Philippines Integrated School, Ateneo de Manila University and the University of the East, highschool team, securing a spot in the semifinals with an 8-0 record.

The second round eliminations of the women’s table tennis tournament will end on Nov. 24, Thursday at the same venue. Bjorn Del B. Deade
