Two UST Tiger Jins captured two medals for the Philippines in the kyorugi competition at the 32nd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

The Philippine Taekwondo Team ended their SEA Games campaign with a 6-1-8 gold-silver-bronze medal haul, placing second behind Thailand’s 7-6-2 tally.

Former Tiger Jin Samuel Morrison topped the men’s under-87 kg category after subduing Indonesia’s Nicholas Armanto, 2-1.

This was his fifth-straight medal in the biennial meet. Morrison has won gold for three consecutive years in 2015, 2017 and 2019; the streak ended in 2021 when he settled for bronze.

The former UAAP gold medalist has recently announced that he would be retiring from the SEA Games after a successful three-year stint since he will now start focusing on his family.

In women’s play, Season 85 Most Valuable Player (MVP) Laila Delo fell to Cambodia’s Nicole Tubbs, who claimed gold over Vietnam’s Bac Thi, in the under-67kg (welterweight) category to settle for bronze, 1-2.

Delo also won bronze in the 31st edition of the SEA Games in 2021.

The Philippine team finished the biennial meet in fifth place with a 58-86-116 gold-silver-bronze medal haul, eclipsing last edition’s 52-70-104 medal tally.
