UST swimmers take bronze in UAAP opener

THE UST Tigersharks took home four bronze medals in the UAAP Season 81 swimming tournament opener at the Rizal Memorial Stadium Thursday. 

Male Tigersharks Kevin Datum, Jay Cabulit, Terence Buico and Renz Gawidan clocked 1:51.52 in the 200-meter medley  relay for bronze behind the bets of De La Salle University and Ateneo de Manila University, who notched gold and silver, respectively. 

UST’s Jux Keaton Solita, Remart Cuaton, Lyndon Herrera and Reynaldo Cullentas also finished third after clinching 8:17.75 in the 800-meter freestyle relay behind La Salle and the University of the Philippines.

In women’s play, Female Tigersharks Clinyl Mae Chuateco, Christian Vallejos, Angelica Samelo and Isabelle Gubat nabbed bronze in the 800-meter freestyle relay after clocking 9:58.27.

Mariel Sorolla also got bronze after clinching 10:15.55 in the 800-meter freestyle event.

“It’s a good start for both teams and they really improved, including our new players this season,” UST head coach Cyrus Alcantara told the Varsitarian.

In the juniors’ division, the boys’ team collected two golds, one silver and one bronze while their female counterparts bagged one gold, two silver and three bronze medals.

UAAP swimming will continue tomorrow, Friday, at the same venue.
