Female Tigersharks bag bronze in UAAP

THE UST Female Tigersharks reaped one bronze medal in Day 2 of the UAAP Season 81 swimming tournament at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex Friday.

The Male Tigersharks missed the podium and remained at third place with 85 points. The Female Tigersharks improved to third with 72 points.

Female Tigersharks Kathleen Parana, Christian Vallejos, Angelica Samelo and Clinyl Chuateco nabbed bronze in the 400-meter freestyle relay event after clocking 4:29.29 behind Ateneo de Manila University and the University of the Philippines, who placed first and second, respectively.

“The team showed a good performance today. They are maintaining the momentum naman,” UST head coach Cyrus Alcantara told the Varsitarian.

In the juniors’ division, the Junior Tigersharks reaped one gold, one silver and two bronze medals while the Junior Female Tigersharks grabbed two golds, two silvers and one bronze medal.

UST’s Kyla Managuelod, Jade Guevara, Anna Articona and Alexandra Bonito set a new UAAP record with 4:16.64 output in the girls’ 400-meter freestyle relay event to take the gold.

Junior Female Tigershark Camille Buico also struck gold and topped her previous record in the 100-meter butterfly event after recording 1:03.91.

UAAP swimming will continue tomorrow, Saturday, at the same venue.
