UST swimmers bag bronze in UAAP

THE UST Tiger Sharks finished their UAAP Season 82 campaign at third place behind the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles and De La Salle University Green archers in the men’s division at the Trace Aquatic Center Sunday.

The men’s team had a 3-3-6 gold-silver-bronze medal tally, posting a total of 322 points. The Blue Eagles gathered 4-7-4 to claim the title with 353 points while the Green Archers tallied 5-3-1 and 343 markers.

UST clocked in a new UAAP record 4:01.13 minutes in the 400m medley relay for the gold medal.

Christian Anor spearheaded UST with twin gold medals in the 100m backstroke at the speed of 59.50 seconds and the 50m backstroke category.

Anor also placed second in the 200m freestyle, recording a time of 1:57.04 behind MVP Sacho Ilustre of La Salle.

Ilustre beat three Tiger Sharks for the gold in the 50m butterfly. Tiger Shark Jeremy Jizmundo placed second with 26.15 seconds while UST’s Reynald Cullentas and Miguel Alvaran tied for third with 26.24 seconds.

Tiger Shark Cullentas took silver in the 200m butterfly category with 2:12.50 after Ilustre.

Abraham Arcilla of UST pocketed bronze in the 400m individual competitions behind Ateneo’s Ianiko Limfilipino and Jiron Rotoni.

Tiger Shark Palfry also finished with a bronze medal in the 200m breaststroke with 2:27.92.

Renz Gawidan of UST also scored bronze in the 50m freestyle event. UST took another bronze in the 200m freestyle relay behind powerhouses La Salle and Ateneo.

In juniors’ play, the Tigersharks and Lady Tankers were hailed as UAAP juniors’ swimming champions, gathering 461.59 and 419 points, respectively.
