A THOMASIAN athlete made history after claiming gold for the Philippines in the first Online Daedo Open European Poomsae Championships on Sunday.

Graduating UST Lady Jin Jocel Lyn Ninobla’s video performance tallied a total score of 7.565 in the final round to beat 111 opponents in the under-30 individual female category.

“It’s a big blessing that I made it to the top despite the international competitors and medalists that joined,” Ninobla told the Varsitarian in an online interview.

The former UAAP gold medalist trumped her opponents from Spain and Iran, who bagged silver and bronze, respectively.

The National Poomsae Team gathered a total of three gold medals in the competition, including one from Ninobla’s father, June.

The seven-day event was organized by the European Taekwondo Union as a way to continue the sport amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. Rommel Bong Fuertes Jr.
