Former UST volleyball star Mozzy Ravena recounts “painful” season for Tigresses

FORMER UST volleyball superstar and three-time UAAP champion Mozzy Ravena described Season 77 as "disappointing" for the Golden Tigresses after another failed attempt to enter the Final Four.

The mother of Ateneo star Kiefer Ravena told the Varsitarian that the Tigresses should learn from their mistakes this year especially since the team was close to finally returning to the semifinals after years of absence.

UAAP volleyball: Ateneo tames Golden Tigresses

Feb. 11, 2015, 8:04 p.m. - THE UST Golden Tigresses' Final Four hopes remain in limbo after suffering a 18-25, 22-25, 22-25 defeat against the undefeated defending champion Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles in the UAAP Season 77 women's volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena Wednesday.

With back-to-back losses, the Golden Tigresses, now with a 5-7 win-loss record, are locked in a tight race against National University, University of the Philippines, Adamson University and Far Eastern University for the last two semifinal berths.

Golden Tigresses sweep FEU for 4th straight win

Feb. 01, 2015, 6:12 p.m. - THE UST Golden Tigresses stretched their winning streak to four after a masterful 25-19, 25-21, 25-23 win over the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws in the second round of the UAAP Season 77 women's volleyball tournament at the San Juan Arena Sunday.

After starting the season with a five-game losing skid, UST has now won its fourth straight game to grab solo third place with a 5-5 win-loss record.

EJ Laure took over for the Golden Tigresses, who remain undefeated in the second round, with a team-high 17 points. Pam Lastimosa added 12.

UST Golden Tigresses top NU for 3rd straight win

Jan. 28, 2015, 5:02 p.m. - ROOKIE Cherry Rondina led the UST Golden Tigresses in a 25-22, 25-19, 25-18 romp of the National University Lady Bulldogs in the second round of the UAAP Season 77 women's volleyball tournament at the MOA Arena Wednesday.
Rondina, who scored a team-high 15 points, caught fire in the third set unleashing a flurry of crosscourt attacks and also blocking the 6'4'' Jaja Santiago.

Rejuvenated Golden Tigresses trip Adamson

Jan. 24, 2015, 7:46 p.m. - THE UST Golden Tigresses registered their first back-to-back wins of the season, hacking out a tough four-set victory over Adamson University, 25-19, 25-16, 23-25, 25-15, to open the second round of the UAAP women's volleyball tournament at the San Juan Arena Saturday.
UST is now tied with the Lady Falcons with 3-5 record to keep its Final Four hopes alive.

Golden Tigresses make last push for Final Four

DESPITE suffering a free fall in the first round, the UST Golden Tigresses are still very much in contention for a Final Four slot the UAAP Season 77 women's volleyball tournament. 
With an improved floor defense and execution, UST is still within striking distance to steal one of the last two seats in the playoffs. 
Last year's finalists Ateneo and La Salle are poised to secure the top two spots, respectively. 
According to assistant coach Vilet Ponce-de Leon, the Tigresses, who are at seventh place with a 2-5 win-loss card, still have a chance to end a two-year Final Four drought despite a lackluster start.

‘Spark plug’ Rondina comes through for Golden Tigresses

REIGNING UAAP beach volleyball Most Valuable Player Cherry Ann Rondina’s high level of intensity has finally paid off after she led the struggling UST Golden Tigresses to a much-needed victory against the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws last Saturday, Jan. 10.

After dominating the sand court in the first half of the UAAP last year, the Cebuana standout has been quietly making an impact for the Golden Tigresses this season, acting as a spark plug off the bench.

Against the Lady Tamaraws and with prized recruit EJ Laure struggling, she finally exploded, delivering a career-high 16 points to help UST snap a five-game losing skid.
