UPDATED Jan. 24, 2015, 9:41 p.m. – THE UST Golden Tigresses registered their first
back-to-back wins of the season, hacking out a tough four-set victory over
Adamson University, 25-19, 25-16, 23-25, 25-15, to open the second round of the
UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the San Juan Arena Saturday.

UST is now tied with the Lady Falcons with 3-5 record to keep its Final Four
hopes alive.

Rookie EJ Laure fired 19 points, 16 off attacks, to lead the Golden Tigresses.
The Tigresses started to pull away in the fourth set after a 5-0 run led by
Laure, 21-12.

UST
arrived at match point, 24-13, after a Carmela Tunay attack. An error by Adamson
sealed the win for the Tigresses.

UST head coach Odjie Mamon was satisfied with his team’s performance.

“They realized by themselves kung paano nila ifu-fulfill yung roles nila.
Not everyone is a scorer. Kung hindi ka maka-score, mag-excel ka sa ibang
skill,” he said.

UST got off to a hot start through the efforts of Laure and Meneses.

Team captain Pam Lastimosa made her presence felt in the second frame, igniting
a 10-3 blitz, allowing UST to mount a 22-10 and cruise to victory.

UST slowed down a bit in the third set and Adamson clawed back with a 10-2 run
to steal the win.

Lastimosa
and Meneses chipped in 16 and 14 points, respectively.

The
Golden Tigresses will try to extend their winning run to three when they face
National University on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2 p.m. at the Mall of Asia Arena. Angelica
