THE UST Male and Female Tennisters scored twin victories against the De La Salle University Tennisters in the UAAP Season 80 lawn tennis tournament at the Rizal Memorial Complex Sunday.
The Male Tennisters outclassed the Green Tennisters, 3-2, while the Female Tennisters annihilated the Lady Tennisters, 4-1.
UST’s Dave Mosqueda opened the day with a 6-2, 6-2 win against La Salle’s Betto Orendain before the Mart Cabahug and En-En Lopez duo trounced La Salle tandem Qoqo Allian and Jonah Cano, 7-6, 7-5.
With the game tied at two matches apiece, the UST duo of Bernlou Bering and Warren Lagahit defeated Jello Cerezo and Dale Gorospe, 6-2, 6-2, for the win.
Male Tennister Dominic Lanzado lost to LA Canizares, 6-7, 3-6, after suffering a sprained ankle and was out indefinitely.
“Okay ang performance nila. [Kahit] nagkaroon ng injury ‘yung isang player, hindi sila sumuko agad kasi sobrang dikit ang mga scores sa bawat match,” UST head coach Alexander Diego told the Varsitarian.
In women’s play, the Female Tennisters secured easy wins from Kendies Malinis and duo Precian Rivera and Eb-eb Caorte.
Lady Tennister Erika Manduriao crushed Lady Tennister Jenni Dizon, 7-6, 6-0, to clinch the victory.
The pair of Ingrid Gonzales and Danica Bautista wrapped things up for UST with a 6-0, 6-1 win over La Salle’s Kianna Gacias and Annika Silangcruz.
Both teams will face the University of the East on Feb. 10, Saturday, at the same venue.
