THE UST Male Tennisters overpowered the University of the East, 4-1, in the UAAP Season 81 lawn tennis tournament at the Colegio San Agustin-Bulacan Sunday.
UST’s Dave Mosqueda swept UE’s Harry Karon, 6-4, 6-0, while the duo of Mark Cabahug and Warren Lagahit trounced Red Warriors Ryle Singson and Jomari Guirra, 6-4, 6-4.
Male Tennister Christian Lopez sealed UST’s victory after crushing Ranz Javier, 6-2, 6-0.
RJ Saga gained UE’s lone victory with a 6-1, 6-3 win against UST’s Francis Lanzado.
“Nakapag-deliver ‘yong players and mas-maayos ‘yong mind set nila today kaya nakabawi talaga kami from yesterday’s loss,” Male Tennisters head coach Alexander Diego told the Varsitarian.
In women’s play, defending champion Female Tennisters succumbed to the National University, 1-4.
Lady Bulldog Clarice Patrimonio registered a 6-3, 6-2 victory over UST’s Mery Rose San Jose to end the day.
Female Tennister Angelica Mosqueda lost to NU’s Annie Tumanda, 2-6, 3-6, while UST’s Erika Manduriao suffered a 2-6, 6-4, 1-6 defeat against Jzash Canja.
UST’s lone win of the day came in the doubles’ division as the pair of Shu Gitalan and Ingrid Gonzales dominated Zan Dumlao and Sam Autalan, 6-3, 6-2.
The Male Tennisters improved to a 3-2 win-loss slate while the Female Tennisters dropped to 1-2.
Both teams will next face the De La Salle University on March 9, Saturday, at the same venue.
