THE UST Tennisters posted contrasting finishes against the De La Salle University in the UAAP Season 81 men’s lawn tennis tournament at the Colegio San Agustin-Bulacan Saturday.
The Male Tennisters hammered the Green Archers, 4-1, while the Female Tennisters crumbled against the Lady Archers, 1-4.
UST’s Christian Lopez dominated La Salle’s Al Andrade, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4, in the opening singles match, while the UST duo of Clarence Cabahug and Warren Lagahit defeated Miguel Gran and Raprap Teng, 7-6, 6-1.
UST’s Dave Mosqueda sealed the Male Tennisters’ victory after pounding Jona Cano, 6-3, 6-3.
In women’s play, Female Tennisters Ingrid Gonzales and Shu Gitalan succumbed to La Salle’s Jed Aquino and Arianne Nillasca, 6-3, 3-6, 1-6, before the pair of Jenni Dizon and Kiezl Diaz pummeled UST’s Ivana Caballero and Immaville Gervacio, 6-4, 6-2.
UST crumbled further after consecutive losses from Mery Rose San and Marrie Ann San Jose.
Veteran Erika Manduriao secured UST’s lone victory after a 6-4, 6-4 win against Angel Santiago.
The Male Tennisters improved to a 4-2 win-lose slate for third place, while the Female Tennisters dropped to a 1-3 slate for fourth.
The Male Tennisters will battle against La Salle anew while the Female Tennisters will try to snatch a win against the University of the Philippines on March 10, Sunday at the same venue.
