THE NATIONAL University Bulldogs routed the UST Male Tennisters, 4-1, in the UAAP season 81 men’s lawn tennis tournament at the Colegio San Agustin-Bulacan Saturday.
Bulldog Jeric Accion defeated UST’s Christian Lopez, 6-3, 7-5, in the first singles match.
The Male Tennisters faltered further after the NU duo of Allen Manlangit and Justine Prulla dominated Clarence Cabahug and Warren Lagahit, 7-5, 6-2.
The tandem of Rucel Cero and Abson Alejandre sealed the deal for the Bulldogs after escaping UST’s Bernlou Bering and Ken Paradela, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.
Male Tennister Dave Mosqueda gave UST its lone win after pummeling Wilson Oblea, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1.
“Malaki naman ang improvement ng mga players kasi lumalaban naman sila kaso kinulang lang talaga kami sa mindset today,” Male Tennisters head coach Alexander Diego told the Varsitarian.
NU remained atop the standings with a 7-0 win-lose slate while UST fell to 5-3 for second place.
The Male Tennisters will next face the University of the East Red Warriors on March 23, Saturday, 8 a.m., at the same venue.
