THE ATENEO de Manila University Blue Eagles dominated the UST Male Tennisters, 5-0, in the UAAP Season 81 men’s lawn tennis tournament at the Colegio San Agustin-Bulacan Saturday.

Blue Eagle Iyo Canlas hammered UST’s Jaffary Cariga, 6-2, 6-1, in the first singles match.

The Male Tennister crumbled further after Ateneo’s Luke Flores and Erj Gatdula escaped Francis Lanzado and Bernlou, 6-1, 0-6, 7-6.

Gab Tiamson sealed the deal for the Blue Eagles after dismantling USG’s Dave Mosqueda, 6-1, 6-4.

“Hindi na-handle (ng players) ‘yong pressure at excitement kaya nag-off ‘yong skills at dumami ‘yong errors. Next game, we need to work harder,” Male Tennisters head coach Alexander Diego told the Varsitarian.

The Male Tennisters fell to third place in the standings with a 7-4 win-lose record, behind Ateneo, who improved to 9-2.

UST will try to bounce back against the University of the Philippines on March 31, Sunday, 8 a.m., at the same venue.
