THE UST Male Tennisters overwhelmed the UP Fighting Maroons, 4-1, to capture their second win in the UAAP Season 86 men’s tennis tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 21, at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Court.
Ericjay Tangub overpowered UP’s Zire Mina, 6-0, 6-2, to give UST the early lead.
In the first doubles match, the duo of Male Tennisters Vince Geo Serino and Richard Bautista outplayed Fighting Maroons Karl Miguel and Jonas Silva, 7-5, 6-4.
However, in the third match, UST’s Brent Cortes fell short against UP’s Loucas Fernandez, 3-6, 2-6.
The tandem of Steven Sonsona and Symon Jaculan bounced back from their previous loss as they sealed the deal for UST after toppling UP’s Rafael Liangco and Hakim Baloto, 6-2, 6-4.
Nilo Ledama delivered the finishing touches for UST after besting UP’s Andrei Jarata, 6-2, 6-3.
UST will next face the DLSU Green Tennisters on Saturday, Feb. 24, at 2:30 p.m. at the same venue.
