THE UST Male Tennisters remained undefeated after a 5-0 sweep of the DLSU Green Tennisters in the UAAP Season 86 men’s tennis tournament at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Court on Saturday, Feb. 24.

Sebastian Santos set the tone for UST, dominating DLSU’s Dan Mates, 6-1, 6-2, in the singles match. 

With the first doubles match tied at one set apiece, Green Tennister Bryst Libao suffered muscle cramps halfway through the third frame and eventually retired, giving UST’s duo of Richard Bautista and Vince Serino the win, 5-7, 6-3, 3-0. 

Ericjay Tangub sealed the deal for UST in the third match after outlasting Green Tennister Nonoy Po, 6-2, 6-0.

Male Tennisters Steven Sonsona and Nash Agustines toppled DLSU’s tandem of Leyton Portin and RJ Virrey (6-1, 6-2) before reigning MVP Nilo Ledama completed the sweep with a 6-2, 6-1 thrashing of DLSU’s Ohye Tortal.

“I’m happy kasi nakita ko kung gaano nila kagusto manalo,” UST head coach Alexander Diego told the Varsitarian. “Mine-maintain lang namin ‘yong mga ginagawa namin para ma-keep ‘yong winning moment and attitude namin.”

UST will next face the Ateneo Blue Eagles tomorrow, Feb. 25, 2:30 p.m. at the same venue. with reports from Jeremy R. Edera
