THE UST Female Tennisters overpowered the DLSU Lady Tennisters in their second-round encounter, 4-1, to secure their fifth win in the UAAP Season 86 women’s tennis tournament at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Court on Sunday, March 10.

Patricia Lim drew first blood for UST after a 6-0, 6-3 thrashing of DLSU’s Eliana Misa.

DLSU equalized as Green Tennisters Jed Aquino and Arianne Nilasca blasted the UST duo of Justine Maneja and Kryshana Brazal in the first doubles match, 6-2, 7-5.

Kaye Emana outplayed DLSU’s Jam Madis, 6-3, 6-0, to give UST a 2-1 advantage.

UST’s ace Alex Santos secured UST’s win after crushing DLSU’s Bea Gomez, 6-2, 6-0, in the fourth match.

In the other doubles duel, Female Tennisters Miles Vitaliano and Princess Gom-os retaliated in the last two frames to snag a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 win against DLSU’s tandem of Amor Idjao and Annika Diwa.

“‘Yong performance today is as expected, nagdeliver pa rin ‘yong inaasahan natin na doubles, which is si Miles (Vitaliano) and si Princess (Gom-os),” UST head coach Dennis Sta. Cruz told the Varsitarian. “Maganda ‘yong naging performance kahit ‘yong kalaban is magaling din at matibay.”

UST remained in second place with a 5-1 win-loss tally, while DLSU dropped to a 1-5 record.

The UST Female Tennisters will next face the unscathed and top-seeded NU Lady Bulldogs at the same venue on Saturday, March 16, at 2:30 p.m.
