THE UST Male Tennisters zoomed to their eighth win after sweeping the Adamson Soaring Falcons, 5-0, in the second round of the UAAP men’s tennis tournament at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Court on Sunday, March 10.

UST, which already secured a Final Four berth, remained on top of the standings with an 8-1 win-loss record, while the lowly Soaring Falcons dropped to a 1-8 tally.

Nilo Ledama opened the game sizzling hot, making quick work of Adamson’s Angelo Rosales, 6-1, 6-1.

UST’s duo of Richard Bautista and Nash Agustines crushed Soaring Falcons Nikko Lumahang and Lawrence Sombreo in the first doubles match, 6-0, 6-2.

Ericjay Tangub sealed the deal for UST with a 6-2, 6-1 drubbing of Adamson’s Miecoz Candelasa, 6-2, 6-1.

With UST’s win already secured, Male Tennisters Brent Cortes and Geo Serino toppled Adamson’s tandem of Reyoses Amba and Tristan Correos (6-3, 6-2), while Sebastian Santos snagged a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Soaring Falcon Ramon Bentillo.

“Tumaas na ‘yong kumpiyansa nila noong nanalo kami sa UP,” UST head coach Alexander Diego told the Varsitarian. “Although ang focus is sa Wednesday sa Ateneo, kailangan ma-solo namin ‘yung No. 1 para twice to beat kami sa Final Four.”

The UST Male Tennisters will next face the likewise semifinals-bound Ateneo Blue Eagles at the same venue on Wednesday, March 13, at 7:30 a.m.
