Lakas Tomasino Coalition dominates CSC elections

THE LAKAS Tomasino Coalition (Lakas) nearly swept the Central Student Council elections last month, winning five of six posts.

Lakas’ Reinald Vincent dela Cruz won the CSC presidency over Alyansa ng Kristiayong Lakas’ (Aklas) Peter Hans Esguerra and independent Jehn Louie Velandrez. Dela Cruz garnered 7,017 votes, while Esguerra and Velandrez got 6,624 and 5,517.

Last year, the Aklas slate dominated the CSC executive board elections, sweeping all six posts.

Comm Arts student is UST’s valedictorian

A STUDENT from the Faculty of Arts and Letters (Artlets) led this year’s batch of Rector’s Academic Award recipients after attaining the highest general weighted average (GWA) this academic year.

Communication Arts student Jo Anne Angeles, one of three summa cum laude candidates, obtained a GWA of 1.17, making her the valedictorian of UST batch 2006.

Sexagenarian is student leader

IT’S NEVER too late to return to school or to run and win a seat in student council elections.

For 61-year-old Civil Law Student Council vice-president-elect Rosario Monasterial, age did not matter when she decided to study again and run for a student council position.

“(Civil Law junior) Anatoly Estrella, who was running for president under the Atlas party, invited me to run under their group,” said Monasterial, a Civil Law freshman. “I hesitated initially but I eventually gave in.”

WHILE another suspect in the killing of former UST ROTC cadet Mark Welson Chua has been put behind bars, the Chua family continues to seek justice for Mark—but now without his father.

A week after former UST ROTC cadet officer Eduardo Tabrilla pleaded guilty to homicide at the Manila Regional Trial Court branch 18, Welson Chua, who had diabetes, died of a heart attack last Feb. 23 at the call center where he worked as trainer.

But Amelita, Mark’s mother, told the Varsitarian that their half-decade fight for justice will continue.

Too lazy for God

I’M A LAZY person.

Right now, I’m trying to think of certain instances in my life that would best illustrate my perennial laziness, but unfortunately, I’m just too lazy to think.

Laziness in my case doesn’t come as an aberrant inclination, but rather as a natural tendency. I’m just lazy by default. If laziness were a crime, I would have long been clasping cold steel bars in jail serving lifetime imprisonment.
