Seminary alumnus is new Tuguegarao archbishop

POPE FRANCIS appointed on Oct. 18 Thomasian bishop Ricardo Baccay as the new archbishop of the Archdiocese of Tuguegarao.

He will replace Archbishop Sergio Utleg who is set to retire after serving the archdiocese for eight years.

Baccay finished his philosophy and theology degrees in the University in 1982 and 1986, respectively.

The archbishop-elect was born in 1961 in Tuguegarao, and was ordained priest in 1987.

Baccay was first appointed as auxiliary bishop of the diocese in 2007, and became the bishop of Alaminos, Pangasinan in 2017.

He is chairman of Commission on Bioethics of the Catholic the Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) and a member of the CBCP Permanent Council.

Baccay will be the eighth bishop of Tuguegarao.
