OUTGOING Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle urged the faithful to emulate Mary’s prayer through silence, during the welcome Mass for the return of the image of Our Lady of La Naval de Manila in Intramuros last Friday.
“Ang pusong nananalangin ay laging buhay dahil ang alaala ay si Hesus, [tulad] ni Maria, na ang panalangin ay nagpapakita ng isang tapat na tao na nagkikilatis ng kalooban ng Diyos para sa Kaniya,” Tagle said during his homily at the Mass in Manila Cathedral.
(A heart that prays is always alive because it is in the memory of Jesus, [like] Mary, that prayer shows a faithful person who seeks God’s will for oneself.)
“Sa mundo na lahat [ay] may opinyon. Sa mundo na ang tingin ng bawat isa na sila ay tama, pa-ingay nang pa-ingay at hindi na nakikita ang pagdalaw ng Diyos. Huwag tayong mautal, mawalan ng salita, at manahimik,” Tagle said.
(In a world where everyone has an opinion and where everyone thinks they are right, there’s noise that blocks God’s coming. Let us not stutter nor lose our words, and remain silent.)
Tagle emphasized the importance of prayer in communication with God.
“Ang panalangin ay pakikipagkapuwa-kalooban sa Diyos. Ang panalangin ay pagtatagpo ng dalawang kalooban. Ito ay nagsisimula sa Diyos at hindi sa atin. Siya ang unang ibig makipag-ugnay at nasa atin kung tayo ay magtutuloy na makipag-ugnay sa Kaniya,” he said.
(Prayer is communion with God and an encounter of senses. This starts with God and not with us. He first desired to communicate with us and it is our choice if we want to continue to interact with Him.)
Tagle also called on the faithful to pray for the Taal Volcano eruption victims despite the celebration of the “coming home” of the image of La Naval in Intramuros.
“Ang ating pagdiriwang at pagsasaya ay hindi paglimot sa mga kapatid natin na sa oras ngayon ay nangungulila, lalo na ang mga naapektuhan ng Taal volcano,” said Tagle.
(We should not forget our brothers and sisters who are affected by the eruption of Taal volcano.)
Tagle led the reenactment of the 1907 canonical coronation of the image of La Naval de Manila.
