THE UNIVERSITY will lead a “Red Wednesday” commemoration on Nov. 25 to show support for persecuted Christians worldwide.

Red Wednesday is a prayer campaign of the pontifical organization Aid to the Church in Need, which provides support and raises awareness for persecuted Christians around the world.

A Eucharistic celebration will be held at the Santisimo Rosario Parish Church on Wednesday, 5:15 p.m., which will be broadcast live through UST’s official Facebook page.

In a letter to UST officials dated Nov. 23, Secretary General Fr. Jesus Miranda, Jr., O.P. urged Thomasians to “participate virtually in prayer during the Holy Mass.”

The University’s Main Building, the Martyrs’ Monument and the UST Hospital will be lit in red after the Mass.

The theme of this year’s celebration is “Red Means Love: One Church Against Covid-19.”

According to the World Watch List report by Open Doors USA, more than 260 million Christians experienced religious persecution worldwide in 2020. Ma. Alena O. Castillo
