A former UST rector and ex-Varsitarian editors reaped plums at the 45th edition of the Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA).

Three-term UST rector Fr. Rolando de la Rosa, O.P. won the best opinion column award for the third year in a row.

His weekly column, “Through Untrue,” has been published in the Manila Bulletin since 1990, featuring reflections based on the Sunday Gospels.

De la Rosa served as rector from 1990 to 1998 and from 2007 to 2012. He is a former Varsitarian Witness (Religion) editor.

“Tunghayan Kami, Inay,” a song dedicated to mark the 50th anniversary of the declaration of Our Lady of La Naval as patroness of Quezon City, clinched the best music video plum.

The song was composed by former Varsitarian editor in chief Bro. Eugene Dominic Aboy, O.P. and former Varsitarian Filipino editor Bro. Joenner Paulo Enriquez, O.P., in collaboration with OPMusik, the music ministry of the Filipino Dominican family.

The Varsitarian, the 95-year-old official student publication of UST, was one of the finalists for best college student organ but fell short to the Benildean, the official student organ of the De La Salle College of Saint Benilde – Manila.

“Cor Jesu,” produced by UST Central Seminary alumni about a seminarian finding comfort in an unexpected place, was selected as a finalist for best student short film. It lost to “Ladingit” from the UST Angelicum College.

The CMMA, presented by the Catholic Media Association, announced the winners on its Facebook page on Friday, Oct. 27. Sheila May S. Balagan
