Three College of Nursing alumnae died while two others were injured in a car crash in Alegria, Cebu during a medical mission last Jan. 20.

Nursing alumnae Juvella Huang, Berenice Roxas and Diana Ignacio-Pascual were declared dead on arrival at the hospital while Nora Tsai and Medicine alumna Elenita Rubio suffered serious injuries.

The four other volunteers who died in the crash were Dr. Nunilo Rubio, Aurora M. Gagni, Joseph Huang (Juvella’s husband) and Reynaldo Pascual (Diana’s husband).

The driver, Gilbert Adlawan de la Cruz, admitted to the Alegria police that he fell asleep during their trip to Kawasan Falls, the team’s destination before a medical mission to Camiguin.

The team was one of four medical teams that traveled to the Philippines for a three-day medical mission organized by the Philippine Medical Association in Chicago.

Nora Tsai was named outstanding Thomasian alumna for humanitarian services in November 2016.

The three deceased nursing alumnae were all members of the Class of 1967.
