UST Tracksters reap medals in UniGames

THE UST Female Tracksters reigned supreme in the Philippine University Games (UniGames) in Dumaguete City last Oct. 26 to 28.

The Female Tracksters, two-time defending champions of the track and field event in the UAAP, pocketed 11 gold medals in the UniGames, as their male counterparts landed on second place. The Male Tracksters bagged five gold, six silver and seven bronze medals.

UST’s Glaiza Salcedo ruled the 100- and 200-meter dash events while Louielyn Pamatian outlasted her opponents in the 800- and 400-meter run.

Jhanine Mansueto, Luz Delfin, and Aira Teodiosio struck gold in the 5,000-meter run, shotput and discus throw events, respectively.

The Female Tracksters also nabbed the top spots in the 4×100, 4×200, 4×400 and classical relay events.

In men’s play, Elbren Neri ran away with gold medals in the 800- and 1,500-meter run.

UST’s EJ Obeina won the 110-meter hurdle event while Lambert Padua topped the 5,000-meter walk.

The Tiger Tracksters grabbed gold in 4×400 relay event.

“We are on target in conditioning. We can’t peak now. We’ll start advancing by January,” UST head coach Manny Calipes said in a phone interview with the Varsitarian.
