THE UST Male and Female Woodpushers on Sunday ended their UAAP Season 79 chess campaigns at fourth place following back-to-back losses against the University of the East and Adamson University, respectively.

The Male Woodpushers dropped a 1.5-2.5 decision against UE in their battle-for-third clash while the Female Woodpushers suffered a 1-3 beating from Adamson.

Normel De Jesus succumbed to Red Warrior Eliseo Budoso while Heirry Manaloto, Jhon Ablid and Christian Flores all scored draws against their respective opponents.

“Siguro sa pressure rin sa women’s, hindi kinaya ‘yung kaba, pero winning (talaga problema), nakakainis eh,” UST coach Ronald Dableo told the Varsitarian.

Adamson’s Crissa Cañada and Jellie Ann Magro defeated UST’s Michella Concio and May Ann Alcantara, respectively.

The Junior Woodpushers scored a 2-2 draw against De La Salle-Zobel to salvage third this season.

“Sayang dapat second dapat tayo. Nasilat ‘yung silver (nung nag-draw) against DLS-Z,” UST juniors coach Peter Lim said.

National University defended their crown in the men’s division while Far Eastern University ruled the women’s division.

UST’s Highzzy Manaloto settled silver at board five while Flores and Heirry Manaloto pocketed silver and bronze, respectively.

Junior Woodpusher Dennis Guttierez took home the Rookie of the Year award and a silver medal at board two.
