THE UST LADY Booters secured the second spot following a 4-2 win over the Far Eastern University in the UAAP Season 79 women’s football tournament at the FEU-Diliman football pitch Wednesday.

Ahead by a point going into the second half, the Lady Booters banked on Thea Marie Sumilang and Shelah Mae Cadag’s conversions in the 65th and 76th minutes, respectively, to pull away for good.

Suettie Simoy drilled in a goal in the 86th minute for FEU but UST’s lead was too big to overcome.

“Nag-improve [at] na-address namin ‘yung mga problema last time na kulang kami sa stamina at ‘di tumatakbo ‘yung mga players. Ngayon maraming tumatakbo, maraming chances na na-create so masaya [at] maganda ‘yung game,” UST coach Prescila “Aging” Rubio said.

FEU drew first blood in the 24th mark behind Jean Brigette Kadil’s goal before UST’s Hazel Lustan scored the equalizer in the 38th minute off Charisa Lemoran’s assist.

Lemoran found the back of the net during a penalty kick in extra time of the first half.

The Lady Booters, who now have 13 points behind a 4-2-1 win-loss-draw card, will face the undefeated De La Salle University on April 23, Sunday, 5 p.m., at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

“‘Yung momentum nasa amin so sana makatulong against La Salle. Hindi kami mag-eexpect pero ang gusto naming gawin ay i-prepare ‘yung sarili namin at sana malabas namin yung kaya naming gawin,” Rubio added.
