THE UST Golden Booters ended the elimination round with a scoreless draw against the De La Salle University in the UAAP Season 79 men’s football tournament at the Moro Lorenzo pitch in Quezon City Thursday.
UST’s Marvin Bricenio almost put the Golden Booters on the scoreboard in extra time by getting past his defender but his attempt bounced off the side of the net.
“We had chances dito sa harap ng goal, we dominated the game tapos ‘di man lang kami naka-score,” UST coach Marjo Allado said.
The Golden Booters pushed the ball aggressively in the final 10 minutes but La Salle prevented attempts from Christian Valderama, Marc Rivera and Jayson Rafol.
“Siguro, rusty [‘yung players from the break]. But anyway, mas mabuti na yun kesa natalo kami ng La Salle. Kahit papano, draw,” Allado said.
UST, which will enter the semifinals at fourth place behind a 6-5-3 win-loss-draw card, will face the top-seeded Ateneo de Manila University in the Final Four.
The Golden Booters lost to Ateneo twice in the elimination round. The schedule is yet to be announced.
“The players, they’re not scared. Nagawa na nila sa Ang Liga, they beat Ateneo twice. Kung sino ‘yung may puso, siya mananalo.”
