THE UST Spikers racked up three more wins in the UAAP Season 80 beach volleyball tournament at the SM Sands by the Bay last Oct. 7.

The Tiger Spikers are tied with last season’s finalists Far Eastern Unversity at second place with identical 3-1 win-loss cards, while the Lady Spikers remained undefeated in five games.

UST scorched the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles, 21-13, 21-14, to recover from its loss against National University last Oct. 6.

Leading 8-5 in the second set, the Tiger Spikers ran away with the win after a 13-5 run sealed by an off-the-block hit from Anthony Arbasto.

The Tiger Spikers committed six errors while Ateneo had 10.

Arbasto scored 18 points while Kris Roy Guzman had 14.

Karl Baysa had 14 markers for Ateneo.

“Nakikita na nang paunti-unti [‘yung chemistry]. Sabi ko sa mga player, kung ganyan ang laro nila, malaking tsansa natin na manalo. Basta consistent ang ginagalaw nila,” UST head coach Paul Jan Doloiras said.

In women’s play, the Lady Spikers pounded both the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons, 21-7, 21-15, and the Adamson University Lady Falcons, 21-9, 21-14.

Against Adamson, the Lady Spikers trailed 6-9 in the second set before dropping a 15-5 blitz highlighted by Caitlyn Viray’s dig to finish off the Lady Falcons.

Viray exploded with a career-high 20 points while Cherry Ann Rondina added 11 markers.

Adamson’s Bernadette Flora and Chrislyn Uy combined for 14 points.

Beach volleyball action continues today, Sunday, 3 p.m., at the same venue.
